Saturday, August 24, 2024 - "CREATIVE CURRICULUM: Choose Your Own Adventure!"
Presenter: Stacey Petz | 10am-2pm | Louise S. McGehee School, 2343 Prytania St., New Orleans, LA 70130
In this workshop, participants will delve into ways to embed the Orff approach into everyday classroom routines. Participants will explore the Orff approach through small and large group activities, body percussion, singing, classroom instruments, literature, and so much more! Stacey Petz will share original Orff-inspired compositions that can be integrated into any elementary or secondary music classroom.
About the presenter: Stacey Petz received her Bachelors in Music Education from Heidelberg University and Masters in Music Education from Kent State. She has experience teaching music (Pre-K through 12) including General Music, Choir, and Band. She currently teaches General Music (K-5) in Powell, OH where she recently received the Teacher of the Year recognition. Stacey has completed her Orff Levels certification through the San Francisco International Course and the Orff Afrique Master class in Ghana, and shares her mission of nurturing musical passion in her students with other educators

 Judy Thompson-Barthwell
Judy Thompson-Barthwell is a retired music educator of 44 years. During her employment, she taught general music, choir, and dance K-12. She volunteers in music classrooms and mentors working music educators. An AOSA Teacher Educator for many years, she received the 2012 Michigan MEA Teacher of the Year Award and the 2021 AOSA Distinguished Service Award.
 Sofia Lopez-Ibor
Sofia Lopez-Ibor Aliño is a world-renowned Orff educator. She has authored two books, and received multiple awards. These include the Pro Merito award from the International Orff Schulwerk Forum, and Teacher of the Year at The San Francisco School where she currently teaches. She served as President of the Spanish Orff Association and a Board Member of the International Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzurg.

 Rob Amchin
Dr. Robert Amchin is a distinguished teaching professor of music education and serves as the liaison to the College of Education at the University of Louisville. He enjoys leading undergraduate and graduate classes in teacher education in the School of Music. Dr. Amchin mentors graduate projects and also supervises student teachers in the Kentuckiana area. His training includes studies at the Orff Institute (Salzburg), New England Conservatory of Music, Memphis State University, Hofstra University, Hamline University, and the University of Michigan. He was an elementary music specialist in Spring, Texas and still works with children as an artist-in-residence guest music teacher. He is a member of the Kentucky Orff Schulwerk Association (KOSA), Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA), The National Association for Music Education (NAfME), The American Recorder Society (ARS) and the American Orff Schulwerk Association (ARS). His publications include numerous collections of materials for the elementary general classroom. A sought after Orff pedagogue, Dr. Amchin has taught Orff teacher-training courses, master classes, and workshops at local, state, and national events throughout his career and is a regular presenter for KMEA. Internationally, he has taught in China, Russia, Austria, Israel, Poland, Turkey and Canada. His research interests include teacher education, elementary general music education, critical and creative thinking, world music, and Orff Schulwerk/Music and Movement Education. Dr. Amchin holds B.M. and M.M. degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music with specialized training in percussion and Orff Schulwerk, and a Ph.D. from The University of Michigan, where he investigated creative thinking skills in elementary age children.
